About 45 minutes away from Lisbon, Tróia is a peninsula surrounded by 3 natural parks, with the sea, long sandy beaches and mountains enhanced in perfect harmony.
Tróia is a paradise that combines panoramic views with charm. Its unique preservation of nature makes this place an exclusive holiday destination in Portugal.
The white sandy shores and the transparent sea of this place will make you feel far away from everything and close to paradise.
In balance with and respecting the environment it's possible to enjoy a series of activities, ranging from sports to the region’s excellent gastronomy.
With 17 km long and 1.5 km wide Tróia Peninsula is a sand dune that belongs to the north coastal region of Alentejo.
The region also offers a casino and marina as well as an 18 hole golf course on the edge of the ocean.
Archaeological investigations are in progress, so the Roman ruins are not yet fully open to the public. However, it is possible to visit the workshops of salting fish, baths, and the mausoleum that houses the "Rua da Princesa".
At the southern edge of the peninsula is Comporta, a village of just over 1000 inhabitants, a land of vineyards and rice inserted between the plains of Alentejo and the Atlantic shores. You can visit the "Rice Museum" located in one of the old mills, see the threshing, winnowing and rice hulling and the cellars of the “Herdade Comporta”.
Continuing further south, we arrive at Grândola, a peaceful town in the Alentejo, located 40 km south of Setubal and the mouth of the river Sado, in the plains of cork oaks.
There are 45 km of white sandy beaches that stretch from Tróia to Melides.

Great holiday 5
We made a family holiday and we were 18 people. The house is great! We loved it. We enjoyed it so much, that the most of us are planning to return. The view is so great and we even saw the dolfins when we were taking breakfast. A wonderful holiday!!! ❤?

Villa Lara 0
We’ve used the villa with a group of 12 ladies, doing workshops for personal growth in combination with yoga. The garden and terrace were inspiring places to do these kind of workshops. When the weather was not cooperative, we have done these workshops in the spacious living (although it was already November, we were lucky with the weather). The yoga we did it on the small private beach next to the river, in the well-maintained garden or in the relax room. The location of the villa is although in a settlement was very quiet and we weren’t disturbed by anybody. Although the ferry between Setubal and the peninsula has its charms, it also has its limitations, when it comes to sailing times especially in the evening. Setubal is a definite “to do” when staying at the villa. In the kitchen we were missing some wineglasses and a juice making machine. Overall the kitchen is very well equipped also for bigger groups. Sleeping rooms and suites are spacious and very neat. The villa manager was very friendly, cooperative and flexible. Stayed Nov 2017

Fantastic! And truly difficult to better.... 5
Villa Lara looks great in the pictures and it doesn't disappoint in the flesh! Where else in late August in Europe can you find a villa backing straight onto a long, safe and deserted beach?
Villa Lara has everything that a large family holiday needs. Plenty of space for people to have their own space yet plenty of alternative places both inside and out for group meals and entertainment. Kayaks, a fenced off pool, a large range of bicycles, multiple BBQ areas the list goes on and on. The only words of caution is that apart from a pizzeria and swimming pool bar there are no restaurants nearby. We had small children in our group which was fine, but because of the type of railings used the villa is not really toddler friendly. Despite this, it’s fantastic and worth every penny !

Wonderful Villa for group/big family holiday 5
19 of us stayed for a week at the beginning of August this year and we all had an amazing time. There is plenty of space in the house so everyone can have their own space, yet there are some big spaces where you can all gather at once. There are now 2 large BBQs next to each other so there was no problem cooking for everyone at once. Carlos was indeed very helpful and friendly and gives some good tips on arrival. The local shop is expensive, the one in Sol Troia is bigger and slightly cheaper, but we did a big shop at Lidl which is in the nearest town, a half hour or so drive away. There is not much to do in the local vicinity, other than relax by the pool or on the beach and enjoy the kayaks, bikes etc. But the ferry is very close by and you can easily go to Setubul, or from there get the train into Lisbon for the day...so for us the location was perfect. We did get a private chef in on two nights - the one recommended by Allure Villas was ok, but we had a number of problems so we wouldn't recommend. But we found another, Justin Jennings, who was excellent. Slightly more expensive but it was like eating at a Michelin Star restaurant. I was very pleased he (and his wife) provided the dinner on my wife's birthday as it was truly a birthday treat. In our group we had a 3 year old, 3 x 4 year olds, a 5 year old and a 6 year old as well as some older children and adults. We blocked the doors to the balconies and used the stair gates and therefore did not have too many safety concerns; however there are some gaps around the stairs in particular which could be a risk for younger children. The slope up to the back door also gets very slippery when wet, but the kids soon learnt not to run up/down it! We are already thinking about going back...so would highly recommend.

Fantastic Villa but be very careful with young children/babies 3
We were a family group which consisted of 11 adults, 3 older children, 3 aged under 3 years old and 2 12 month old babies who stayed early June. Pro’s The villa is very impressive with loads of room for a large group. Its position right on the beach was great for the younger children to be able to play out at any time of day without having to pack up bags etc and gave a good change from being around the pool. The equipment provided was excellent – numerous bikes, children toys, kayaks, pool table – all excellent – couldn’t have asked for anything more! Lovely location – very quiet and un-touristy (not good for people wanting more nightlife) – Bike ride required to go to Troia Marina for restaurants etc. Pool was a lovely size and depth and the grassed areas around was perfect for young children rather than hard floor. Troia and Setabul are lovely places – small and quaint and not too commercialised. Carlos is extremely helpful and on hand for any issues should they arise. Con’s The villa has one major con which I really feel should be addressed before there is a serious accident. In our opinion the villa is not safe for young children and babies as it currently is. There are many large drops down internal staircases onto hard tiled floors. We tried our best to block the gaps on the staircases with our suitcases and bags and Carlos did make up some stair gates as best he could but these were only temporary and could be moved relatively easily. Additional stair balustrades are needed to make any gaps small enough that a young child cannot fit through. All the external balcony’s and railings (with the exception of a small stretch immediately by the pool) have a vertical bar design with large gaps between and around the bottom that a small child could easily fall through. The design is like a climbing ladder for very young children who don’t understand the dangers. We felt a bit on edge during our holiday and couldn’t let the younger children out of our sight for this reason. We blocked off balconies with chairs etc but it was a constant worry in the back of our minds. The way the villa is built meant that a lot of these drops were very large and onto hard concrete. I dread to think what would happen if any child was to fall through. It is such a shame about this issue as without this I think the villa would be pretty perfect. I would strongly recommend that some investment is made to child-proof this element of the villa due to the unnecessary risk it holds. A simple solution would be to alter the balcony railings to be the same as the small stretch by the swimming pool. Of much lesser importance, another slight con for our group was that the location is extremely quiet – there is literally nowhere to eat out within walking distance. The closest is a 25/30 min bike ride to Troia marina which was lovely but we had to go in small groups as there wasn’t enough bike carts to take all the young children in one go. Next time we would hire a few extra bike carts so that we could all go out as a large group. We would also be better prepared next time for this and would know that we need to ride to the restaurants. The other nice option was to walk down the beach to catch the ferry to Setabul – this was good but they stopped at 10/11pm at night. Also no taxis on Troia so that option isn’t there which we didn’t fully appreciate. Overall, the villa is lovely and I would highly recommend it to adults and groups with older children but anyone travelling with young children and babies should be made aware of the dangers until these are properly addressed. Therefore I would score the villa a 3/5 now based on safety issues but if these were corrected I would score it 5/5

Amazing Villa and fantastic location! 5
We stayed in Villa Lara mid September (11 adults and 3 children) and it was perfect. The setting is beautiful, having the beach at the end of the garden and the atlantic beach a 10 min cycle ride away. The bikes proved invaluable, both to get to the beach and shop, and we even cycled into Troia one day. The pool is a good size and really clean. The whole layout of the Villa and all the facilities were excellent. The only thing that let it down is a very small BBQ (of the 3, the charcoal one looked as though it would fall apart any day so we didn't use, the gas one works perfectly but is very small, and the electric one is away from the others just outside the kitchen so not ideal). It really needs one large gas one. We coped, just, as there were only 11 adults and 3 small children but I think you would struggle feeding more. That is a very minor thing though as everything else was perfect. The area is stunning, really unspoilt and beautiful, and very relaxing. We would definately love to come back!

A good holiday 4
A very good spot. We had 20 people, including 8 children, and it coped well with our needs, although I wouldn't want anymore people there, unless you had children using cots (which we didn't). Villa is is a fab location, and the nearby shop .5k away is adequate, and better than we expected. Facilities at villa (bikes, kayak's etc., were well maintained). Bed's were good quality, always a big plus for us. Great cooking facilities, and lots of pots and pans, fridge and freezer space, important when catering for this number of people. Only down sides for us were : - no safe - which seemed a major oversight to us, when you have 20 peoples passports and valuables to look after, - games room lighting - also a bedroom, was hard to control, and turns on with a sensor - not good if you are using it as a bedroom too, - high mosquitoes area, - BBQ facilities very poor - 3 small bbq's (1 gas, 1 elec, 1 bbq), which for this many guests is poor - whilst lots of pans and crockery generally, very few wine glasses and mugs (we bought some ourselves to supplement them!) - not all rooms had fans, again we bought two to supplement them, which we shouldn't have needed to do Overall though, a very good villa, and friendly service from Allure, locally from Carlos, and good standard of cleaning etc.

Fantastic - Lots of space and lots to do Fabulous spacious villa for large groups. The pictures don't do it justice. It was spacious, clean and well-maintained with activities to keep all ages happy and space to get away from others too. The big kids loved the pool table in the cellar, the little kids biked around the garden and there were enough bikes for larger groups to go to the bigger beaches. It's been designed to work for large groups so there were two dishwashers, ovens and toasters! And as an added bonus, we saw dolphins swimming in the sea from the garden. Highly recommended!

Great for groups of families travelling together 5
We were 4 families with children from 2-14 years. It was a great house, that met all our expectations. Children played by the pool, while the calm water on the beach in front of the garden was nice for adults and longer swims. The waves in the colder water on the Atlantic side had great waves for play. For surf, Carvahal Surf School 20 min south had great lessons and waves for family groups. You need a rental car for trips to restaurants 5 km north on the island, or you can use the many bikes in the garage. Though it's just as nice to walk the 800 mtrs to the ferry, and cross over to Setubal. The cooking facilities and kitchen emenities are great, although a larger gas barbeque would be handy. The mini market in Sol Troia is 5 min nice cycling away, and for larger supplies, Troia Marina has a good supermarket. Great villa with lots of space. Very helpful and serviceminded owner!

It's exactly what you're looking for 5
This villa is everything you'd expect from the photos. We went as a group of 6 families, kids aged 1 through 15 (21 people in total) and every single person had a fantastic time. It wasn't over crowded, the pool is beautiful, the place is all around excellent. The owner met us on arrival, showed us around the town, and where we could find local food & groceries, gave us a tour of the villa, and then let us be for 7 fantastic days & nights. I would definitely recommend. If you are looking for nightlife while on holiday we took a quick ferry trip over to Setubal which has good bars & restaurants.

Holiday with family and friends 5
We had a group of 22 people aged 14 to 52. We had a wonderful week in Villa Lara, Troia. The villa met all our needs and expectations -even exceeded them. Villa was well equipped and there was enough room for our big group. There was a lot to do: bikes, canoes, billiard, pool, beach etu. also for our youth. We saw dolphins in the river and enjoyed beaches by the house and by the Atlantic Ocean.

The Perfect Vacation House for Groups Large or Sma 5
This house was perfectly set up for our large group of vacationers, which ranged from 14-21 people, including 9 kids. There are 6 bedrooms that have queen beds and bathrooms en suite. It is great to have a house where all the adults have equally nice rooms. There were 2 bunk rooms and a basement room with 5 beds that could sleep up to 7 children. This provided us with lots of flexibility for the kids. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. There is plenty of seating for everyone, but also enough different sized tables that if there is only a small group, you don't have to feel overwhelmed. We had everything we could possibly need for fun at the house. There's a great pool, furnished with towels, lots of lawn chairs and even some swim toys. The yard is big enough for a game of futbol or frisbee golf. The owners gave us access to a kayak which we used to chase the dolphins in the Estuary out back. We saw dolphins several times out back! The house is located a few minute's walk or drive to the Atlantic Ferry that takes you to Setubal, which made day trips more convenient. There is an incredible Atlantic side beach 5 minutes away from the house, across the street in the Sol Troia development. There is also a snack bar there, which was nice for the kids. In the Troia development about 10 minutes away, there is a grocery store, good enough to feed our group. Troia is located conveniently so that there were several outstanding day trips within 1.5 hour drive, including Lisbon, Sintra and Evora. Overall, I highly recommend this house for your Portugal vacation. July 2014
